Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Natural Resources and Forestry Expert with a specialized focus on India’s unique forestry landscape. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional knowledge in forestry science, forest-related technology, and forest carbon estimation methodologies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to sustainable forestry practices and environmental conservation efforts in India. Responsibilities: Forest and Environment Data and Surveys 1. Working closely with Technology developers to provide Forestry Science insights and scientific modelling where required for stock, carbon and growth models 2. Working experience in projects and program with forest department in India 3. Excellent command in forest science data analysis and modelling 4. Excellent understanding of forest management data requirements and from designing questionnaire to conduct advance analysis Analysis and Assessments 5. Conduct comprehensive assessments of India’s forest ecosystems, including biodiversity, carbon sequestration potential, and resource management practices. 6. Utilize advanced forest carbon estimation techniques to assess carbon stocks and fluxes within Indian forests, contributing to climate change mitigation efforts. Team work and Collaboration 7. Collaborate with forest officials, front line staff, technology team and other experts to ensure that forestry and ecosystem data will be integrated well in the models 8. Provide technical expertise and guidance on the adoption of innovative forest-related technologies, such as remote sensing, GIS mapping, and forest monitoring systems. 9. Lead research to investigate innovation to address issues of invasive species management, land-use change, and forest degradation. Training and Capacity Building 10. Deliver training workshops and capacity-building programs to enhance the skills of forestry professionals and stakeholders across India. 11. Stay abreast of current trends, policies, and developments in the field of forestry science and natural resources management, particularly as they relate to India. Requirements: 1. Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. 2. Proven experience working in forestry science, with a focus on Indian forest ecosystems and landscapes. 3. In-depth knowledge of forest carbon estimation methodologies, including experience in relevant tools. 4. Proficiency in utilizing advanced technologies for forest monitoring and assessment, such as remote sensing, GIS, and statistical modelling. 5. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets related to forest ecology, biodiversity, and carbon dynamics. 6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, academia, and local communities. 7. Demonstrated project management experience, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver results within specified timelines. 8. Passion for environmental conservation and a commitment to promoting sustainable forestry practices in India. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Prior experience working on forestry projects funded by international organizations or donors. 2. Familiarity with relevant policies and regulations governing forestry and environmental conservation in India. 3. Experience in conducting environmental, forestry and biodiversity surveys within forested areas. 4. Proficiency in regional languages spoken in India, in addition to English, would be advantageous.
