Our goal is to create a Digital Twin of all freshwater ecosystems in the world, using our novel hard-tech product, AquaNurch , to de-risk aquaculture from ecological stressors and establish climate-resilient sustainable fisheries. Role Description This is a full-time on-site role for a Fisheries Development Officer at NatureDots in Chhattisgarh . As a Fisheries Development Officer, you will be responsible for daily tasks related to the development and management of sustainable fisheries. This includes conducting research on freshwater ecosystems, implementing and monitoring aquaculture practices, collaborating with aqua farmers, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, you will be involved in developing strategies to enhance fishery production, promote sustainable fishing practices, and contribute to the overall growth and success of the fisheries sector. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Aquatic Biology, or related field Strong knowledge and experience in fisheries management and development Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Experience in conducting research on freshwater ecosystems and aquatic resources Ability to develop and implement strategies for sustainable fisheries Understanding of environmental regulations and compliance in the fisheries sector Collaboration and teamwork skills for working with aqua farmers and stakeholders Passion for nature conservation and sustainable resource utilization Responsibilities and Requirements We are looking for a passionate individual who holds a strong understanding of Freshwater Fisheries with excellent field experience. Candidates should have high attention to detail, be a proactive problem solver, good in people’s management, and work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Aquaculture Expertise Candidate should have a good mix of theoretical and practical understanding of Freshwater aquaculture, especially about major and minor carps, including commercial fisheries. Should have an understanding of the end-to-end fisheries value chain, issues and good-practices of aquaculture pond management, disease management, pond-preparation and post-harvest management protocols. Knowledge of the impact of water quality on fish growth and other issues/problems fish farmers face on a day-to-day basis. Research and Knowledge Can research both primary and secondary sources to gather valuable information, deduce insights, and present results/findings in an easy to understand manner. In-depth understanding and field exposure of Inland Freshwater fisheries, especially in India. Can assess and identify development needs within the fisheries sector including the fish/fishery products value chain & value-added assessments. Can assess sectoral capacity needs, and prepare a strategy for the development and promotion within the Fisheries Sector with a focus on eco-friendliness, sustainability, job creation and women’s empowerment. Customer Mapping and Relationship Good with social interactions and confident to have interaction with government officials, fish farmers, fish equipment & fish feed sellers. Aware of fish markets, bulk buyers, and other key actors in the aquaculture value chain. Attending and participating in meetings, workshops, events, and exhibitions, liaising with clients, vendors, and suppliers on behalf of the company’s managers Can provide technical assistance to local key stakeholders including customers in aspects of fishery management. Training and Capacity Building Excellent in people engagement, followups and keeping record of day to day activities Can deliver training and capacity building activities in fisheries and aquatic environment Environmental Awareness: Should have a good understanding of the environment and social impact of aquaculture. Tools: Excellent computer skills, including full working knowledge of standard word processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages, understanding of fish quality control laboratory related statistical & scientific software will be an add on. Travel: Candidate should be willing to travel to field locations for various project requirements.
