Since 2012, over 1.5 million people have been killed in road crashes in India and close to 5 million have been left seriously injured or permanently disabled. Besides the insurmountable emotional trauma that thousands of families must suffer each year, road crashes deal a crushing economic blow to many families. SLF is a fast-growing, specialised organisation with a proven track-record of delivering large-scale impact. We are best known for getting India its Good Samaritan Law and developing the ‘Zero-Fatality Corridor’ solution to transform dangerous highways into ‘safeways’. We are registered as a not-for-profit organisation to ensure complete mission alignment. Our teams work in a creative environment to build novel solutions and thrive on problem solving. Over the last 15 years we have built unique strengths in areas such as forensic investigation of crashes, data analytics and predictive modeling, safety design and engineering, public policy formulation, and strategic communication and training. We strive for excellence in everything we do and build leaders through opportunity and mentorship. We seek a consultant-designer, to oversee Tactical Urbanism project in Assam. The ideal candidate will have human-centric design, analytical skills, knowledge of traffic surveys, and a commitment to provide safer pedestrian-friendly design. Role and Responsibilities The Consultant – Design at SaveLIFE Foundation will be passionate about street and junction design. She/he will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of Tactical Urbanism projects that aim to make roads safer for vulnerable road users. The ideal candidate will have design, analytical and critical thinking skills, and a deep understanding of street and junction design. Responsibilities include: Supervise and conduct traffic surveys and audits (through third-party providers). Mapping and analysis of crash data. Perform observational studies and activity mapping. Conduct conflict analysis using surrogate safety measures. Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for the project. Create various types of drawings, including existing, conceptual, and proposal drawings (including 3D views). Oversee on-site project implementation Prepare detailed reports and presentations Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to plan and execute tactical urbanism projects. Professional Experience Master’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, or a related field. Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in intersection and street design. Proficiency in design software and tools, including AutoCAD, GIS, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, 3D modelling software, and Microsoft Office. Strong grasp of detailed construction drawings. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in Assamese (optional). Personal Characteristics Action, accountability execution orientation and ownership mentality. Hands on approach, Solutions-oriented; strong problem solver. Strong ability to work across teams. Direct, clear, and concise communicator. Additional Requirements: Occasional visits to the Delhi office (once or twice a week). Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
